I can only cook basmati rice, and only 3/4 of the time (since our 237 year old stove isn't too predictable...) But here's how I do it: I rinse my rice (usually 3/4 cup) before I cook it, dump it in a pot with 1 tbsp of EVOO & some salt, pour in JUST enough water to cover it all, put the lid on, set the element for medium-low (3 on my stove) and set the timer for 18 minutes.

It would seem however that I can. At least based on the perfect rice that I cooked last night. That curry sauce was pretty good too.
